Ferlita talks about run for mayor on Facebook
Hillsborough County Commissioner Rose Ferlita hasn't officially announced plans to run for mayor of Tampa in 2011. But Sunday night she updated the status of her Facebook page with talk of the contest. Here's part of what she wrote: "It will be a tough race but we're ready for that. We'll work hard and we will accomplish lots of stuff for our City. We'll have fun as we accomplish the things we need to accomplish. Thanks for your early support. Send names and contact info if you'd like."
Among those who responded to Ferlita's post: Chris Rosbaugh, a young Democrat considering a run for the Tampa City Council; Rayme Knuckles, who heads Hillsborough County's Homeless Coalition; real estate agents Emmy Purcell Reynolds and Robert Wilson; art gallery owner Michael Murphy; and Ybor City activist Fran Costantino.
Ferlita is a Republican who previously served on the Tampa City Council. So far, the only person to file for the race to replace Pam Iorio is Marion Lewis, a former Tampa police captain who was forced to leave his job when he ran against Iorio in 2007.
