Florida DEP to announce landfill decision today
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has made it's decision on the private east Pasco County landfill project that has upset opponents from Dade City to Tampa. But you'll have to wait until this afternoon to learn whether it has been approved.
"Nothing's signed yet, but today's the day," department spokewoman Pam Vazquez said.
Angelo’s Aggregate Materials, a Largo-based offshoot of Michigan’s Iafrate Companies, wants to build a 90-acre landfill that could ultimately grow to 1,000 acres. But critics say the project is too close to the Green Swamp and risks spoiling the region's water supply.
