University of South Florida student Christopher Cano filed today to run for Tampa's at-large District 1 City Council seat. Cano was a candidate for the District 60 state House post, but lost the Democratic primary to Russell Patterson. Republican Shawn Harrison won the general election.

Other candidates in the District 1 council race so far are council member Curtis Stokes and West Tampa businessman Guido Maniscalco. Cano, who is working on a master's degree in public administration, set about collecting signatures immediately after filing his paperwork and said he had 50 within three hours. Cano is a member of the Wellswood Civic Association board of directors. "We have a lot of neighborhood issues," Can said. "I think I can best help the community by being on the City Council."
