GOP fundraiser dumps on Hillsborough tent city vote
BayBuzz caught up with developer and Republican fundraiser Don Phillips having coffee this morning with some of the homeless folks who often gather outside his Bayshore Boulevard offices. Phillips wanted to dish on the Hillsborough County commissioners who this week killed a Catholic Charities proposal for a tent city for the homeless. The commissioners who voted against it: Kevin White, Mark Sharpe, Al Higginbotham and Ken Hagan. Phillips wondered if any of those elected officials had ever made the effort to talk to some of the people who would have been helped by the tent city. And he expressed frustation with their unwillingness to take advantage of the agency's offer. "We're so twisted in our ability to lead that they cannot even accept a gift," Phillips said. "That is a tragic, tragic shortcoming."
