Green business consultant Michael Ciftci considering run for Tampa City Council

Michael Citfci, founder of the nonprofit United for a Sustainable America, is considering a run for the Tampa City Council. Ciftci, who previously worked as government affairs director for Phillips Development, the company headed by Republican activist Don Phillips, said he'll run for the city wide District 1 council seat now held by Gwen Miller. Miller is leaving the post due to term limits. So far, former state legislator Sara Romeo and West Tampa business man Guido Maniscalco have filed to replace Miller.

Ciftci, 27, was West Florida director for John McCain's primary campaign in 2008, and volunteered for McCain during the general election. Last week, Ciftci's nonprofit hosted the second annual Green Business Summit, which drew local and national elected officials including Congressomwan Kathy Castor, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, Tampa City Council member Charlie Miranda and mayoral candidates Rose Ferlita and Bob Buckhorn. Ciftci is also a founder of the green consulting company called Sustainable Strategies.
