The guv weighs in: "Vote Bunting" in Pasco
Republican voters in Pasco began hearing Gov. Charlie Crist's voice on the other end of their phones today. Crist recorded a phone message vouching for Pasco GOP Chairman Bill Bunting in Bunting's bid to unseat John Renke II from his longtime state committeeman post. The unpaid post is up for a countywide vote Aug. 26.
The race is roiling the local Republican Party, prompting Crist ally and state Sen. Mike Fasano to make recorded calls for Rehke, a former lawmaker. But Crist has cast his lot instead with Bunting, the Fasano adversary and gun rights guru of the Florida Republicans.
Bunting was on the receiving end of attack mail reliving his misdemeanor convictions of yore this week. Crist is helping Bunting respond.
"Please don’t let these negative campaign tactics influence your decision," Crist says. "I have known Bill Bunting for many years. Bill Bunting is a great republican and great patriot. This election, I ask you to support and give your vote to Bill Bunting for state committeeman."
