Hackworth dumps $30,000 in campaign for final push

Democrat Bob Hackworth gave his campaign $30,000 as a loan on Oct. 13 as part of the $32,000 raised this month, bringing his total fundraising to $84,000. He contributed more than half of his total contributions.

His rival, Republican County Commissioner Susan Latvala, raised $15,000, bringing her total cash contributions to $146,000. Her donors includes a billboard political action committee -- the county is considering loosening standards for digital signs -- and members of the Pennington, Moore, Wilkinson, Bell & Dunbar legal and lobbying firm in Tallahassee, which works for the commission. Four members of the firm, including lobbyist and former Pinellas lawmaker Pete Dunbar, contributed a total of $1,500.

Their race of the District 4 commission seat in north Pinellas remains the most watched. Latvala supporters suggested she's pulled away somewhat form him, though Hackworth -- after being hit by an attack mailer this week -- believes it's still close.
