Hackworth to run for Latvala's commission seat
Former Dunedin Mayor Bob Hackworth filed Wednesday to run in this year's race for Pinellas County Commission, seeking to unseat Susan Latvala.
Hackworth, a Democrat, will launch his campaign with a speech at Saturday's Kennedy-King Dinner by the Pinellas Democratic Party.
"I think there is a desperate need for change on the County Commission to address the really pressing issues, and I think part of that change is elected officials you can really trust to govern. That’s what I’m going to concentrate on as a campaign theme," Hackworth said.
Latvala, a Republican, already faces a primary challenge from Beverley Billiris, outgoing mayor of Tarpon Springs, in the north Pinellas district seat.
