Harris to run for re-election, eyeing opposition
Pinellas County Commissioner Calvin Harris confirmed today he will run for re-election in 2010, saying he plans to launch his campaign this November.
Harris, a Democrat who has been on the board since 1997, already has one opponent. Frequent county critic and protester Greg Pound, a 2008 independent candidate for sheriff, recently filed as a Constitution Party member to run to replace Harris. Former challenger Norm Roche also has signaled he will run as a Republican, but has not filed paperwork to run (neither has Harris).
"This is a critical time in the county and the county needs serious leadership," Harris said before today's commission meeting, though he noted, "Everybody's a serious candidate who's on the ballot."
