Hayden: Definitely maybe for state Senate
Pinellas County School Board member Nina Hayden isn't ruling herself out of running for state Senate in 2010. Democrat Charlie Justice is leaving office to run for Congress, opening the race.
Hayden, who won the school board seat in November, has chatted with County Commissioner Ken Welch and others about her interest in the Senate and other elected offices. But the newness of her current post is among "very good reasons" against running, she acknowledged.
"I have to be honest with you, I did not realize that this type of opportunity would present itself so soon," Hayden said Friday afternoon. "At this point, I can’t really give you a definitive or specific answer at this time. I really enjoy my time on the school board."
Former state Sen. Jack Latvala, a Republican, is the only confirmed candidate, though former Rep. Sandra Murman has also been mentioned on the GOP side. Rep. Bill Heller, D-St. Petersburg, recently ruled out running for Justice's seat.
