Hernando politicos will regret these photos

This is a political opponent's dream. A Hernando County commissioner and a former commission candidate -- both family-values Republicans, no less -- dressed in drag. Commissioner John Druzbick and former candidate Billy Healis, what were you thinking? Don't believe it, check out the photos below.

The sad part, Healis actually won the crown as the "Wo'man Fashion Model of 2009" -- what a great line for a political resume.

Seriously guys (or gals), what were you thinking? Don a wig, makeup, jewelery and assorted undergarments that we'd rather not imagine and then sashay down the catwalk? Don't you remember what cross-dressing did for Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City? Did he get picked as the GOP nominee for president?

Sure, the "fashion show" was a fundraiser at Brookridge Country Club for the Hernando County Crime Stoppers chapter. But don't you know the power of images and how they live forever on the Internet?

And to think they almost escaped ridicule. Only a photo of Druzbick appeared in today's Hernando Times and neither photo appeared on the paper's Web site. But we did a little digging and scored the raw photos from Times photographer Will Vragovic.

John Druzbick

Billy Healis

Expect to see them next in a direct mail piece. For a pointing Druzbick, can we suggest the caption: "There goes my career." Or maybe the cliche, "Blonds do have more fun." And for Healis' next campaign, the winner with a crown, "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful." Or try, "Vote for me. I'm a princess." Ah, the possibilities are endless ...
