Hills commish candidate Margaret Iuculano fundraises in South Tampa
Margaret Iuculano, a Republican candidate for the District 1 Hillsborough County Commission hosted a meet and greet Thursday night at 717 South Restaurant in South Tampa. One question repeated several times at the event? How do you proununce her name. It's U-ku-lano. The 44-year-old lives in Apollo Beach, and vounteered on Frank Sanchez's mayoral campaign in 2003. Iculuano used to run a Microsoft training business, and says she'd like to help small business owners, in part by connecting them with existing opportunities for credit, such as the Small Business Administration. "A lot of times there are programs in place. They just don't know they exist," she said.
Among those on hand: political consultant April Schiff, who is working for Iucalano; Tampa city council candidate Guido Maniscalco and Rachel Slowey, who helped organized the event. Slowey and Iuculano worked together as Microsoft trainers.
Iucalano will face Trey Rustmann in the Republican primary. Tampa City Council member John Dingfelder, a Democrat, is also seeking to fill the position now held by Rose Ferlita. Ferlita has said she plans to run for mayor.
