Hillsborough County Republican Party selects new chairman
Art Wood, a credit union president from Plant City, was elected to head the Hillsborough County Republican Party in a vote Tuesday, easily defeating three other people for the post. Wood, president and chief executive officer of Railroad & Industrial Federal Credit Union and the immediate past vice chairman of the party, collected 113 votes from party executive committee members. Chris Shalosky, a tea party favorite, got 45 votes. Carol Carter, who weathered controversy two years ago for forwarding what was considered by some to be a racist email, got 26 votes, while Willis Bowick collected six votes. Wood replaces Deborah Cox-Roush, who resigned recently to take a position with the Herman Cain presidential campaign.
