House candidate switches to Pinellas commission race
Carl Folkman, a wine and spirits business broker from Crystal Beach, has left the race for the Florida House seat held by Rep. Tom Anderson, R-Dunedin.
Instead, Folkman, a Republican, switched this month to run to unseat Pinellas County Commissioner Susan Latvala, a Republican, in 2010. Other candidates include Tarpon Springs Mayor Beverley Billiris and Ray Brooks, both Republicans.
Folkman couldn't be reached for comment recently, leaving voice mail messages with the Bay Buzz saying he was traveling. Curtis Dieterich, who identified himself as a friend and campaign manager, said Folkman was too busy trying to raise money ahead of the Wednesday quarterly deadline to speak, but would be happy to talk after Oct. 5.
Folkman lost a 1996 bid for Palm Harbor Fire Commission. His wife, Ellen, is a correspondent, writing for the Taste section of the Times, Dieterich did confirm.
