Housing agencies officially splitsville today
St. Petersburg Housing Authority finished its move and began operating at a temporary office today, completing its divorce from the Pinellas County Housing Authority after a nasty fight in April between county board members and chief executive officer Darrell Irions.
The city agency had to move out from the county agency-owned headquarters in Largo. The new office is at the Rogall Congregate building, 300 10th St. S. It will be the city agency's home for at least nine months while it looks to build or redevelop a new site, spokeswoman Audra Butler said.
While board member Tom Minkoff ripped Irions' decisions and management at the time, it looks like Irions fans are still standing up for him in the split. Check out city agency board member Arnett Smith's statement in a recent news release:
“Under the leadership and direction of our CEO, Mr. Darrell Irions, the performance levels of all Pinellas County Housing Authority programs were raised significantly. Within short order, Mr. Irions and his staff turned around the dismal performance of PCHA operations,” Smith said.
