Iorio yuks it up with comedian
Comedian Mark Malkoff paid a visit to Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio today on his quest to collect the keys to 100 cities in 30 days. But Iorio pulled off some of the best lines during the encounter. When asked how long she has been in office, Iorio said: "Some might say too long." When showing Malkoff the city's trophy case, she pointed to the Bucs Super Bowl trophy and noted: "This was when the Bucs were really good."
Iorio presented Tampa's key to Malkoff on a colorful commemorative Tampa plate. When Malkoff noted that one mayor have given him a 5-foot key that clearly had no purpose, Iorio said: "We are a practical city. That's why we gave you a plate." Malkoff said that the Tampa key is his 30th so far. "I hope I'm not just another city to you," Iorio told him.
In exchange for receiving the key to Tampa, Malkoff is volunteering at Metropolitan Ministries. His visit with Iorio will be posted on his Web site, markmalkoff.com, in a few days, he said.
In previous stunts, Malkoff lived on an airplane for 30 days to overcome his fear of flying, and lived in an Ikea store for a week while his home was being fumigated.
"Mayor Pam's hilarious," Malkoff said after the visit. "The Ikea people love her."
