Jabil deal not part of official record

ST. PETERSBURG-- The city's official record of a multimillion incentives package for Jabil Circuit does not name the company or how much it would receive.

The City Council approved $12.7-million in incentives for Jabil last month without public notice, discussion or mention of what it was voting on.

Taxpayers looking to learn more about the deal by reading the City Clerk's minutes from that June 19 council meeting are out of luck.

The minutes state that the council approved "the required City participation for the State’s
Qualified Target Industry Tax Credit Program" but does not specify how many dollars were set aside for Jabil. The minutes do not even mention "Project Extreme," the title given to Jabil since city staff could not name the global manufacturer under state law.

The meeting minutes are just a draft, City Clerk Eva Andujar said. The council still has to approve them.
