Janet Long, once and future candidate?
Former state Rep. Janet Long, D-Seminole, has been the subject of a lot of different potential campaigns. The chatter in county circles is she's preparing to run against Republican County Commissioner Nancy Bostock. Or maybe it's the state Legislature again.
Yet the Bostock-Long race could hinge on something beyond Long's aspirations, however much of a dynamic campaign it could become. As it stands, Long doesn't live in Bostock's at large district. Election records put her precinct in Commissioner Neil Brickfield's at large district.
"I’m not running against Neil Brickfield," Long told the Bay Buzz on Thursday evening.
And she's not planning on moving. So does that throw a campaign against Bostock away? Long wouldn't say that.
"That’s a really good question. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what reapportionment does," she replied.
There's one race she did rule out. A political staffer for Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee -- the same one that reached out recently to County Commissioner Ken Welch -- approached her several months ago about running in U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young's seat, Long said.
"I told him he needed to do his homework. I mean, congressman Young has been there a long time," Long said.
