Jim Norman worried how Ambler lawsuit will affect his political future
Hillsborough County Commissioner Jim Norman is worried how a lawuit filed by state House Rep. Kevin Ambler to keep him from running for state Senate in November will affect his political future. In a motion filed last week, his attorney argues that Norman shouldn't have to give videotaped testimony because it might be used later in an attack ad. Norman hasn't been ordered to give a deposition yet, but wife Mearline gave six hours of testimony in Tallahassee on Friday with criminal defense attorney Frank Winkles by her side. Ambler's suit has led to an FBI investigation of a financial relationship between the Normans and Ralph Hughes, a political activist and and construction magnate who over the years benefited from Norman's pro-growth votes on the commission over the years.
