Kriseman to push for constitutional ban, special session on drilling
Rep.
Rick Kriseman, D-St. Petersburg, and Rep.
Keith Fitzgerald, D-Sarasota, will have a new conference Thursday in St. Pete Beach to announce new measures they want to fight oil drilling. The
Bay Buzz is told the proposals, done in concert with Democratic South Florida Sen.
Dan Gelber in Miami Beach and first noted by Politico, include:
-- a constitutional ban on drilling and exploration in Florida waters
-- a special session this year to address it
-- and a mandate agreed by GOP leadership in the Legislature to develop a "clean energy" policy without oil or coal.
The event will be at 10 a.m. in the south lawn near the TradeWinds Resort, 5500 Gulf Blvd.
