Larry Ahern gains endorsement of builders, electrical contractors
ST. PETERSBURG – Larry Ahern, the Republican candidate for state House District 51, has been endorsed by two organizations: the Independent Electrical Contractors of Florida and the Associated Builders and Contractors, Florida Gulf Coast chapter.
“I am proud and honored” by the endorsements, Ahern said.
“The Independent Electrical Contractors understand that it is small businesses and the entrepreneurial spirit that fuels our economy. I look forward to working with them in Tallahassee,” Ahern said. “The Associated Builders and Contractors’ mission is one I strongly support. Contracts should be awarded on the free-enterprise system and merit – not on labor association.”
The IEC serves as the voice of the electrical and systems contracting industry on policies affecting its membership. The IEC says it strives to further the growth of the U.S. economy through skilled manpower and the principle of free enterprise.
ABC is a national association whose mission is the advancement of the merit shop construction philosophy, which encourages open competition and a free-enterprise approach that awards contracts based solely on merit, regardless of labor affiliation.
The District 51 seat is held by Democrat Janet Long, who is running for re-election. Also running is Victoria Torres, an Orlando resident who is a tea party candidate.
District 51 covers Seminole, South Pasadena and parts of St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park, Largo and the unincorporated Lealman area.
