Latvala adds $112K to state Senate bid
Republican Jack Latvala, already well ahead of Democratic opponent Nina Hayden in fundraising, has added to his financial leverage in their state Senate race.
Latvala, a former senator, reported raising nearly $113,000 for the final three months of the year, and spending more than $24,000. Latvala has raised more than $430,000 overall since starting fund-raising in April.
Hayden, a Pinellas School Board member, raised only $2,585, bringing her fund-raising take to $8,190 overall and total spending to $7,488. She raised $5,600 in the third quarter of 2009 after launching a bid for the District 16 seat in July.
That, if you are counting, is a $390,000 advantage sitting in Latvala's campaign account. Hayden has yet to get outgoing seatholder Sen. Charlie Justice's backing, though he carefully called her a good candidate recently. But some Democrats, skeptical of her campaign early, are waiting to see if someone else enters to take on the increasingly robust campaign of Latvala.
