Listen to Latvala voicemail lighting into Pinellas rival Folkman

Animosity by County Commissioner Susan Latvala toward opponent Carl Folkman spilled over this week when she left two testy phone messsage for Folkman, an opponent in the Aug. 24 Republican primary.

Latvala accused Folkman of placing campaign signs on private property without approval.

"Get your signs down. Find some friends of your own," Latvala says before hanging up.

The voicemail arrived Monday morning, as Folkman said he coped with his mother being in intensive care.

"I'm sick and tired of her treating people like crap," he said, echoing complaints about Latvala's treatment of people.

The calls came after Latvala and developer Jim White last week accused Folkman of complaining to Publix management at the Crystal Beach store recently over Latvala signs on the property, owned by White. The grocer objected, and his signs were removed. A day later, Folkman signs turned up before being removed too. Folkman acknowledged talking to a manager, but said he didn't really care about Latvala signs.

On Wednesday, Latvala said she wasn't going to engage in sign fight with Folkman.

"I have a campaign to run. I’m winning, he’s not -- he needs to get over it," Latvala said.

But it might not be over. Folkman said after warning fellow primary opponent Beverley Billiris of Tarpon Springs of Latvala's complaining, she suggested he take it to a TV news station. He said he did an interview that's yet to air.
