Local Democrats hit Ybor for Alex Sink rally

Several hundred local Democrats streamed into The Ritz in Ybor City this evening for a Get Out the Vote Rally that featured Alex Sink, Dan Gelber, Scott Maddox and Loranne Ausley and other state candidates. Local candidates on hand included county commission hopeful Linda Saul-Sena and District 56 state House candidate David Chalela. Chalela, who faces Republican Rachel Burgin tomorrow, said he's undaunted by reports that Republican voters will far outnumber Democrats. "We're going to be pleasantly surprised," he predicted. The event also drew several Tampa City Council and mayoral candidates, who all have their eyes on Nov. 3, when the political focus can turn to the city's March elections. Among those in the crowd: Michael Ciftci, who plans to run for the District 3 seat, District 6 candidate Kelly Benjamin, and Guido Maniscalco and Sara Romeo, both candidates in District 1. Mayoral candidates Ed Turanchik and Bob Buckhorn were also there. Turanchik and Benjamin say they'll be out at the polls tomorrow collecting signatures to qualify for their races.
