Local GOP plans rally for RNC site selection team
Local Republicans will be waving flags and signs and cheering on members of the 2012 Republican national convention site selection team Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Channelside entertainment complex. "We are going to be there en masse, we hope," said Deborah Cox-Roush, who chairs the local party and is vice chair of the state GOP. "The biggest thing is just to show that Tampa wants them here."
Hosting the convention, she said, would the energize local and state Republican parties, and provide an economic benefit for everyone. "I was a delegate in Minneapolis and I can tell you I spent a lot of money in Minneapolis/St. Paul," she said. "They'll take home souvenirs, they'll go to the beaches, our hotels will be full."
It's the third time Tampa has tried to lure the event. Phoenix and Salt Lake City are also competing to host the 2012 extravaganza.
