Local LGBT official going to White House
ST. PETERSBURG -- Lorraine Langlois, executive director of Metro Wellness and Community Centers, has been invited to attend a June 22 ceremony at the White House that honors individuals whose contributions "paved the way for sexual orientation and gender identity equality."
The ceremony is part of the June proclamation issued by Pres. Barack Obama that called it Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.
Langlois has served as executive director since 1994 and has worked in the field of HIV/AIDs services and prevention. Joining Langlois on the trip will be Tonicia Freeman, Metro's director of prevention and minority services.
