Mayor Pam Iorio sells South Tampa home, moves to Bayshore

TAMPA — Mayor Pam Iorio has traded her South Tampa house for a Bayshore condominium.

Iorio and her husband, chief assistant Pinellas County administrator Mark Woodard, closed the sale of their Beach Park home Tuesday, she said.

Iorio, 51, is nearing the end of her second term as mayor and will leave office at the end of March because of term limits. She and Woodard have two children, Graham, a junior at Florida State University, and Caitlin, a graduate student at the University of South Florida.

Still, Iorio said the move is not downsizing so much as “seeing if we like living in a high-rise.”

To do that, they’ve moved to the 23-story Alagon tower on Bayshore Boulevard, where they plan to rent for at least a year, maybe two.

“Even though I’ve been a lifetime resident, I’m seeing Tampa from a different vantage point,” Iorio said. “It’s a beautiful view of the water.”

Iorio and Woodard had not listed their W Cleveland Street home through a real-estate multiple listing service, which she said would have been too invasive for someone with her job. Rather, they found their buyer, a Chicago woman they did not know, through word of mouth, the mayor said.

“We didn’t have to sell, and we were happy living there, but we also thought that if someone came around and did want to buy the home that it might be a good time for us to try condo living,” she said. “And, indeed, that is what happened.”

Iorio declined to disclose the sales price other than to say it was “a fair enough price.” She and Woodard bought the four-bedroom, two-story home in 1999 for $340,000, according to public records. They sold it for more than that, she said. The Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s Office estimates that the house has a market value of nearly $425,000.

The family moved just before Christmas.

“We had a lot of moving boxes; nonetheless, we got the Christmas tree up in the new place,” Iorio said. “It’s been kind of fun.”
