Mayor Rick Baker honors his family at final council meeting
ST. PETERSBURG -- If your family is supportive of your professional ambitions, you might get them an extra nice birthday gift, or maybe take them out for dinner.
Mayor Rick Baker, on the other hand, gifted his nearest and dearest with a day Thursday.
That's right, a day.
After two terms, Baker celebrated his final City Council meeting by handing proclamations out to his mother, wife and two teenage children.
January 1, 2010 was declared Joyce Baker Day in honor of his wife.
Baker gave this New Year's Eve to his daughter. His son, a sports fan, was given December 19, 2009, when the St. Petersburg Bowl will be held.
Mother Baker, who lives in Pasco County, was made an honorary citizen by proclamation.
In all, Baker thanked his family for supporting him and honored their service to the city, which, for his mother, included, "giving birth to Mayor Rick Baker."
