Miller to Dingfelder and Saul-Sena: Don't let the door hit you on the way out
After the abrupt resignations of John Dingfelder and Linda Saul-Sena from the Tampa City Council this week, council member Mary Mulhern suggested Thursday that their former colleagues commend the two for their years of service.
Saul-Sena was a council member for 20 years, Dingfelder for nearly eight. But Gwen Miller, who butted heads with Saul-Sena in 2007 when Saul-Sena backed Joe Redner in his council run against Miller, would have none of that. Miller cast the lone no vote against the resolution, saying the council hasn't done that in the past for departing members.
That may be, but when Kevin White and Rose Ferlita left the council in 2006 because they were running for County Commission, they got lovely sendoffs at their last council meeting. Dingfelder and Saul-Sena don't have that luxury. The pair left their positions with no notice, saying that was necessary to preserve their County Commission runs after missing a deadline for filing paperwork with the supervisor of elections. Hillsborough County Republicans say they are looking into whether the two Democrats should be on the ballot at all in November. Read more about it here.
