More Pinellas scanners malfunction
Poll workers discovered three malfunctioning scanners this morning when they reported for duty.
The mishaps occurred at Precinct 197 on 90th Avenue N in St. Petersburg; Precinct 368 on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Clearwater; and Precinct 351 on East Bay Drive in Clearwater. The scanners were replaced before 7 a.m. when the polls opened, preventing any delays, said elections spokeswoman Nancy Whitlock.
But other polling locations weren't so lucky. As of 10 a.m., scanners at five more locations were malfunctioning. The delays took place at Precinct 109 on Martin Luther King Street S. in St. Petersburg; Precinct 641 on Katherine Boulevard in Palm Harbor; Precinct 115 on 22 Avenue S in St. Petersburg; Precinct 291 on Belcher Road in Largo; and Precinct 704 on Pinellas Avenue in Tarpon Springs.
Whitlock said she didn't think the scanners would create delays.
"It takes only a few minutes to get them fixed," she said.
