From MTV to Pinellas administrator? Could happen

The consultant Pinellas County hired to find a new permanent county administrator has come up with a list of 53 names. Municipal officials from across the country are on the list, as well as private sector administrators and even the senior accounts manager for MTV Networks Latin America.

It's likely the top choice will have administrative experience in Florida, however. Hillsborough County budget director Eric Johnson, Charlotte County administrator Bruce Loucks, Broward County administrator Pamela Brangaccio and Orlando deputy chief administrator Marsha Segal-George are on the list.

Segal-George unsuccessfully competed with former Largo administrator Susan Stanton for the top administrative job in Sarasota County in May of last year.

Pinellas assistant county administrators James Dates and Mark Woodard have also thrown their hats in the ring.

Tuesday, the consultant is to present a selection of 8 to 10 of the names to the County Commission, which will decide who will be brought in for interviews. The commission is to make a final choice Sept. 2 and the new administrator is to start in November.

The pick will replace Steve Spratt, who resigned in September in the wake of the Jim Smith land deal controversy. Fred Marquis has been serving as interim administrator.
