Obama supporters take the heat
More than 150 people squeezed into the hot and stuffy rooms of Barack Obama's downtown Tampa field office Tuesday for the grand opening of the location. By the end of this week, Obama will have 13 offices open in Florida, with five of them in the Tampa Bay region. The Obama team encouraged volunteers to get five people to register to vote to help them reach of their goal of registering 555 new voters this week. They also handed out names and numbers of registered voters and told the people at the event to start making calls immediately on their cell phones.
Among those at the event: Former congressman Jim Davis, Tampa City Council member John Dingfelder and congressional candidate Bill Mitchell. Davis seemed eager to weigh in on drilling for oil off Florida's coast. Obama has said he's open to compromise on the issue. "I think Florida expects protection of our coast. The devil is in the details," Davis told BayBuzz. "The key is the proximity."
