Pasco GOP contest down to Bunting, Renke

The Aug. 26 primary fight for state committeeman featuring two Pasco Republican Party heavyweights, Chairman Bill Bunting and state committeeman John Renke II, has lost its third, lower profile entrant. Grady Peeler has sent an email to supporters and contacted the county elections office. He says he's no longer campaigning for the post and that he supports Renke.

"This particular position is very important this year, and John Renke is honest, fair, above board in all his dealings, and has been a tireless proponent for Republicans since 1994 as the State Committeeman incumbent.  I initially ran for this position because it appeared John was not running, and I'm very
pleased that he decided to do so," Peeler wrote.

Bunting is challenging Renke, a former lawmaker and longtime committeeman, as part of a party power struggle in the county. Bunting also faces a challenge in the precinct committeeman race in his own neighborhood. If he doesn't win the precinct contest, he could be ousted as chairman.
