Pasco's Mariano to join Century Commission
Gov. Charlie Crist today named Pasco County Commissioner Jack Mariano to the Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida. The panel, whose chairman is St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker, is tasked with helping Florida plan for the next 50 years of growth.
Mariano, a Hudson Republican serving his second term on the County Commission, said he's looking to push more "green-building" work and pursue the long-term development options for the state's mega-metro areas. He also wants to examine options for sports tourism in the state, a topic near to his heart in Pasco.
Mariano replaces Palm Beach County's Mary McCarty, a Republican. McCarty resigned from the Palm Beach County Commission this year after admitting to charges of honest services fraud involving the acceptance of discounts, free hotel stays and other undisclosed gifts provided by companies doing business with the county. Her term ran to August.
