Pasco's Nicolette's TV ad: Developers beware!
With the county's first local campaign ad, Pasco County Commission candidate John Nicolette, a Republican, doesn't tell viewers a couple things after heaping praise on himself.
"Nicolette will take on big developers, and stop them from making more traffic congestion, and start paying their fair share," a narrator says (see TV ad here).
The ad taps into voters' discontent over Pasco's traffic snarls. But Nicolette, owner of more than 300 acres, has developed some of the land in low-density lots. He also helped a waste hauler buy land for a large development.
And his opponent, Republican Ted Schrader, supported an impact fee hike last summer in a unanimous vote. At more than $20,000 a home, Pasco now has some of the highest fees on new construction in Florida. While Nicolette promises to get development "under control," the housing downturn is already doing the job for him, too.
