Pinellas County Commissioner Susan Latvala says Baker was never a real contender
ST. PETERSBURG -- If Pinellas County Commissioner Susan Latvala had her way, former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker would never have made it into the semifinalist running for the St. Petersburg College president gig.
Latvala said the presidential search committee was told to select eight semifinalists. That's the only reason Baker was ever a contender, she said in a telephone interview Wednesday afternoon.
"His credentials didn't equal those of especially the two top vote getters," she said. "The experience and the professional background that they have far exceeds being the mayor of a city."
