Pinellas Democratic chairman likely out
Pinellas Democratic Party Chairman Ramsay McLauchlan tells Bay Buzz it's unlikely he'll seek another term.
Despite having more registered voters and doing higher fundraising than years past, the county Democrats got pulverized in key races this year for Florida House, took an unexpected loss in Calvin Harris's County Commission seat and turned over a state Senate seat to Republican Jack Latvala. Their best hope as a challenger, Bob Hackworth, lost, too.
"I doesn’t pass the smell test that I or the party is somehow responsible for the outcome of the elections. I think if I ran again, I could probably win. It shouldn’t be about the chair of the party," he said.
McLauchlan was already leaning against another term before the election, but the results do nothing to make running the party or his chances more appealing.
Though he hasn't made the decision final, nothing happened Tuesday to change his inclination, McLauchlan said.
"At this point, I'm unlikely to run again as chair," McLauchlan said, though he plans to stay involved in the party.
