Pinellas Democrats throw support behind Kathleen Ford for St. Pete mayor

ST. PETERSBURG -- As expected, Pinellas Democrats have thrown their support behind Kathleen Ford, the Democratic contender in the nonpartisan mayoral race.

Here's the e-mail they sent out:

From a field of 10 candidates, two candidates emerged victorious -- one progressive Democrat who promises more transparency and accountability from city government and one arch conservative Republican who once wrote to the local school board complaining that teaching of evolution led to the Columbine massacre.
Democrat Kathleen Ford built her campaign on the backs of a dedicated volunteer base.  With the help of the firefighters, SEIU and hundreds of local supporters, she was able to successfully present her vision for the future of St. Petersburg despite being out spent by most of the other candidates in the race.

Kathleen has a vision of an open and transparent government where citizens can be assured that their elected officials are looking out for their interests, not those of wealthy special interests.
She will prioritize city services. Public safety will be the city's top priority. Next, support for our neighborhoods and business districts will be maintained. Kathleen believes that our parks and recreation facilities are important amenities that our citizens rely upon for health and fitness. Access to our libraries should be maintained as these are not just places for pleasure but are for many, the first places they look to seek job information.

Here is what SIEU has to say about Kathleen Ford:  “Both the members of the political committee that we formed and our general membership simply feel that Kathleen Ford best understands the bread and butter issues of St. Petersburg's working families” said Robin Turner, Stormwater Technician for the City of St. Petersburg.  “We're excited about Ms. Ford's candidacy and know that her election will be a step forward for our community.  Our members understand that decisions made by political leaders directly affect our everyday lives.  We've closely examined the candidates for mayor of St. Petersburg and we're proud to support Kathleen Ford,” she added.
