Pinellas GOP fundraising hammers Dems
In consecutive weekends in February, the Republican Party and then the Democratic Party had fund-raisers at the Hilton hotel in Carillon. The results weren't pretty for Pinellas County Democrats.
After making financial gains on the GOP last year, the Pinellas Democrats raised $19,534 in the first three months of the year, new reports show.
The county GOP raised almost $140,000 in the first quarter. As we previously noted, more than $120,000 came from the party's Lincoln Day dinner a week prior to the Democrats' Kennedy Kind Dinner.
The local GOP spent $53,700 -- more than three times the Democrats' spending. But it was still enough to bolster the coffers after GOP Chairman J.J. Beyrouti had lost ground in the fund-raising stakes.
Overall, the GOP has raised $272,600 to the Democrats' $61,900 this cycle.
Put another way: U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores, stroked a check for $40,000, twice what Democrats raised in three months.
