Pinellas GOP straw poll winners: McCollum, Bondi, Latvala
Sunday's straw poll at the Pinellas County Republican party's Victory 2010 Picnic -- indoors at Banquet Masters in Pinellas Park -- gave Bill McCollum an unsurprising victory.
Long more popular among party activists, McCollum cruised to a 209-80 victory over Rick Scott.
Here's some other results:
Attorney General: Pam Bondi 221, Jeff Kottkamp 42, Holly Benson 37. Bondi, of course, was a prosecutor in Tampa, making her another crowd favorite.
County Commission, District 4: Susan Latvala 138, Carl Folkman 85, Beverley Billiris 42. Despite criticism of her record, Latvala, who isn't a universal favorite of party executive committee, showed how her bigger, higher-dollar campaign packs punch, as do her entrenched ties in the county. And the results suggest what other party observers see: Folkman and Billiris are splitting the opposition vote, though Latvala would have still outpaced them combined.
But in another notable result, Fabian Calvo took the Florida House District 45 balloting. Calvo had 115 votes, Kathryn Starkey 75 and Richard Corcoran 57. It's a north Pinellas-southwest Pasco district, and Calvo is the only Pinellas resident in the race. Generally, though, Starkey and Corcoran have been considered the front-runners.
Full results will be posted later on the jump. Go the Pinellas GOP homepage for full results of the straw poll, which was $20 a vote.
