Pinellas sales tax plan for light rail takes shape
Here's a sneak peek at a presentation that looks at a plan to ask Pinellas County voters in 2010 for a sales tax increase to pay for light rail and more buses.
The issue will be discussed at a Monday morning meeting of a transit funding panel under the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority. The meeting packet includes a draft time line for a referendum, potential timing of focus groups and polling options.
For example, one PowerPoint consideration: "Timing of the Decision to Proceed Should take into Consideration the Best Opportunity for Success."
The County Commission, which has some skeptics (Karen Seel) or at least undecided members, will ultimately decide whether to put the measure on the November 2010 ballot.
