Pinellas School Board's Hayden to run for state Senate
Pinellas County School Board member Nina Hayden just confirmed she will run for Sen. Charlie Justice's seat in 2010. Hayden, a Democrat, is the second candidate to announce in the Pinellas-based district after former Sen. Jack Latvala, a Republican.
Hayden, an attorney in the Public Defender's Office, just joined the school board after winning the November election.
"I know there’s going to be questions about that, but anybody that knows me, understands me, knows my work ethic," Hayden said.
Improving education will be among her top issues, and Hayden promised change is afoot in the Republican-dominated Legislature.
"That doesn’t mean looking back at the past, that means bringing in someone who can look to the future," Hayden said in a dig at Latvala.
