Platt recovering after surgery
Platt, 71, said she was having a routine test recently when doctors discovered what she described as a precancerous growth in her colon. She said she had not been experiencing any symptoms beforehand.
She went in for surgery Aug. 12 at St. Joseph's Hospital and was discharged Tuesday. The growth tested negative for cancer.
Platt said she is feeling fine, if a little bored. She has stayed active on local community issues -- including speaking out against a proposal to create an elected county mayor -- since leaving the County Commission in 2004. She has been told by her doctors that she will need to take it easy for about a month.
