Poll shows Brian Blair leading in District 47 race

Former Hillsborough County Commissioner Brian Blair just sent out a news release announcing he has qualified for the District 47 state House seat. And along with it he sent the results of a poll showing he leads the pack of Republican candidates in the race. The poll of 300 likely Republican primary voters was conducted by John Libby of American Public Dialogue in Jacksonville, according to the Blair campaign. It gives Blair 54 percent of the decided voters. James Grant gets 20.6 percent of the vote and Irene Guy gets 9.3 percent. Rich Reidy also gets 9.3 percent, but he dropped out of the race this week, and has endorsed Grant. According to the poll, 65 percent of voters remain undecided. Factor them in, and Blair gets nearly 19 percent of the vote, compared to 7.2 percent for Grant and 3.3. percent for Guy. See the release here and see the entire survey report here.

The poll seems to show just how much name recognition Blair has. He's the only one in the group who has held public office, serving as a county commissioner for four years before losing re-election to Democrat Kevin Beckner in 2008. Grant is the son of long-time Florida lawmaker John Grant.
