Port Richey City Council closes doors to discuss dissolution
PORT RICHEY -- The City Council met behind closed doors Tuesday night at City Hall to discuss how to proceed with dissolving the city.
The council had a court reporter present as it met for an hour with City Attorney Michael Brannigan and interim City Manager Ellen Posivac.
Three Port Richey residents have gone to court to challenge the validity of an ordinance laying the groundwork for a referendum on dissolving the city. They say the city has not met all the conditions under state law for dissolving a city.
The council discussed whether Brannigan should fight the legal challenge, do nothing or negotiate, said council member Phil Abts, who briefed reporters after the meeting. The date of the referendum has not been set.
