Seminole council members can be pretty scary

Barnhornphoto SEMINOLE -- Council member Tom Barnhorn (left) was concerned during Tuesday's meeting about the city's upcoming Field of Screams event.

Council members have participated every year except last October because the decorations for the council tables fell apart before they could be used. Barnhorn wanted to know if other council members wanted to get spruced up decorations and participate in the 6-year-old event.

Patricia Plantamura, one of the newest members of the Seminole council, wasn't sure.

"Being new and for the benefit of the public, I have no idea what a Field of Screams is, so you might want to say," Plantamura said.

Barnhorn explained the Oct. 30 event provides a safe place for kids to come get candy. Local businesses have tables and owners dress up in costumes to hand out goodies to the kids. Sometimes the costumes are really scary, he said, and the kids really do scream.

Council member Leslie Waters commented, "Sounds fun, and some of us won't even need a costume."

Waters paused, then added: "BOO!"
