Several Hillsborough incumbents qualify for reelection on first day to do so

Several of Hillsborough County's local elected leaders were listed as qualified to seek reelection at the end of the work day Monday, the first day candidates for office can make their campaigns official. Qualifying runs through noon Friday.

Among those who submitted their paperwork were Sheriff David Gee and Tax Collector Doug Belden, both Republicans. Clerk of the Circuit Court Pat Frank, a Democrat who has been part of a whisper campaign that she may not seek reelection, also submitted her forms to the Supervisor of Elections Office. And Democrat Craig Latimer, seeking to replace his boss, Earl Lennard, who is retiring as supervisor of elections, qualified as well.

None of the listed candidates for Hillsborough County Property Appraiser is shown as qualified on the supervisor's website, including incumbent Republican Rob Turner. Turner has attracted significant opposition after revelations that he sent porn to his human resources director, whom he once dated, then fired her as the news was about to break. Though none of the declared opponents, Republican state Sen. Ronda Storms and and former Democrat state Rep. Bob Henriquez among them, have qualified either.

Among county commissioners, Democrats Kevin Beckner and Les Miller, have qualified.
