Smoke? Don't look for a job with Pasco Gov't
Pasco County Commissioner Michael Cox wants Pasco to tamp out hiring workers who smoke. At his urging, the county is researching a ban on hiring anyone who uses tobacco products, including cigarettes, chewing tobacco and cigars. Current employees would be exempt.
The commission heard a health department presentation on the ills of smoking. But county officials want to cure themselves of something else: increasing insurance rates. Banning new hires who are smokers could lower premiums.
