Spend the holidays with someone you're suing
ST. PETERSBURG - Council members spent part of Monday debating the wisdom of suing Pinellas County over proposed cuts in funding for emergency medical services.
Some council members wondered if they should try again to negotiate with county commissioners even though a nine-hour Halloween meeting went nowhere.
St. Petersburg city attorney Mark Wynn explained that, even if the city sues, the two groups would have to meet again because of a state law that requires governments that sue each other to meet to try to work things out before the issue gets to court.
"We could schedule that (meeting) on another holiday, if you like," Wynn said. "Maybe New Year's or Christmas day."
