21

September

SEMINOLE – Now that the oil spill in the gulf is no longer front page news, attention turns to energy alternatives, what those alternatives look like and what policy issues are in play to insure that the United States reaches energy independence efficiently and effectively.

To help start the discussion, St. Petersburg College’s Seminole campus is holding a forum, the Gulf Oil Crisis: Pathways to Policy on the Future of Energy.

The main feature of the forum will be a panel presentation and discussion featuring Dan Lashof, Climate Center director, National Resources Defense Council; Dr. David  A. Cartes, director of the Institute for Energy Systems, Economics and Sustainability, and associate director of the Center for Advanced Power Systems, Florida State University; Barry Moline, executive director, Florida Municipal Electric Association; and Dale Brill, president, Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation and former state director of the Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development.

The session will end with comments from state Sen. Dennis Jones, R-Treasure Island, and state Rep. Janet Long, D-Seminole.

The forum is 9:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 2 at the Digitorium, 9200 113th St. N.
